Near-field Ion Current Density Measurements

چکیده
Faraday probe measurements were taken in the near-field plume of a 6-kW Hall thruster to reduce the negative effects of facility-induced charge-exchange collisions. The results from these measurements were analyzed using a non-standard definition of the current density integration bounds that produced self-consistent beam current and beam divergence values. The measurements indicated a beam divergence half-angle of 16° and an ion beam fraction of 0.78 at the thruster’s nominal operating condition of 300 V and 20 mg/s. These global parameters were used in a probe-based efficiency architecture and the resulting anode efficiency matched thrust stand measurements within 3.2% (absolute not relative). These results represent a marked improvement over traditional far-field Faraday probe measurements that grossly over-predict beam current and beam divergence. Nomenclature CEX = charge-exchange Itot, dyn = dynamic integration beam current DT,mean = thruster mean diameter j = ion current density Ib = ion beam current OR = outer radius Id = discharge current r = radial location IR = inner radius ηb = current utilization Itot = total integrated beam current ηd = divergence utilization Itot,DC = discharge channel beam current θ = divergence half angle

Recent Results from Internal and Very-Near-Field Plasma Diagnostics of a High Specific Impulse Hall Thruster
Floating potential and ion current density measurements were taken on the laboratory model NASA-173Mv2 in order to improve understanding of the physical processes affecting Hall thruster performance at high specific impulse. Floating potential was measured on discharge chamber centerline over axial positions spanning 10 mm from the anode to 100 mm downstream of the exit plane. Ion current densi...

The granular Gd1-x-zPrxCazBa2Cu3O7-δ high-temperature cuprate samples with 0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3 and 0.0≤ x ≤ 0.35 are prepared by standard solid state reaction and characterized by XRD and SEM techniques. The BaCuO2 and impurity phases are less than 1% in the samples having high levels of pr and Ca concentrations. The electrical resistivity measurements show a nonlinear reduction in Tc(x,z=etc) vers...
متن کاملBinder-free copper hexacyanoferrate electrode prepared by pulse galvanostatic electrochemical deposition for aqueous-based Al-ion batteries
Copper hexacyanoferrate (CuHCF) nanoparticles with tunnel-like Prussian blue structure were deposited on graphite substrate via pulse galvanostatic electrochemical deposition at 25 mA cm-2 with both on-time and off-time periods of 0.1 s, which presented the ability to intercalation/de-intercalation of Al ions reversibly in aqueous solution. The crystal structure of the as-prepared CuHCF f...
متن کاملVery-near-field plume study of a 1.35 kW SPT-100
Ion current density and electron number density profiles were measured in the very-nearfield plume of a 1.35 kW stationary plasma thruster (SPT-100) loaned from Space Systems/Loraland Fakel Enterprises. In order to take these measurements without significantly disturbing plasma flow while data were collected, a small Faraday probe and a single Langmuir probe were constructed and used with high-...
متن کاملThe Hidden Ion Population - Revisited
Satellite potentials in the outer plasmasphere range from near zero to +5 to +10 V. Under such conditions ion measurements may not include the low energy core of the plasma population. In eclipse, the photoelectron current drops to zero, and the spacecraft potential can drop to near zero volts. In regions where the ambient plasma density is below 100 cm, previously unobserved portions of the am...
